Ukulele Private Lessons

 

John Leder

Teacher Biography: John began playing the ukulele in the garage as a youngster, and the gift of a baritone ukulele when he was 15 sealed the deal. He now plays in several styles, including jazz, chord melody, and Hawaiian. John is co-founder and currently president of the Seattle Ukulele Players Association, teaches uke to a third grade class at a Seattle elementary school, and teaches adult groups and individual students in a variety of settings. John evaluates individual students’ learning styles, and teaches so as to cover lessons in basic music theory and the essential exercises needed to develop ukulele playing skills—all while having fun with great songs!

 

 

Susan Howell

Ukulele, Mountain Dulcimer

Teaches at Dusty Strings: Flexible

Ages taught: 8 and Up 

Levels taught: Beginning & Intermediate

Teacher Biography: Susan was a music major who moved on to primary education. She has given private music lessons in Seattle for more than a dozen years and has been a member of the Seattle Ukulele Players Association since its formation. Susan teaches complete beginners as well as more advanced students. Mastering the ‘ukulele involves learning strums, chords, where the notes are, and how to transpose and arrange songs and tunes. Susan can teach you these skills as well as music theory, jazz chord progressions, and chord melody styling. She loves getting people hooked on the ‘ukulele and has a special fondness for the songs from the 30’s to mid-60’s.
