Teacher Biography: Birch has built a strong reputation in the Northwest as an accomplished musician, composer and producer. He has a jazz performance degree from UW and has studied and performed many styles of music, including jazz, Americana, funk, hip hop, salsa, Brazilian, and Afro-pop. He works on helping students get comfortable with the feel of the piano, looking at arm/wrist position and comfortable fingerings plus rhythm, basic music theory, sight reading, and most importantly, learning how to play along with other people! He encourages students to bring in songs they'd like to learn in the genres that interest them, and breaks down the techniques, chords, and musical feel that gives that style of music its character.

Kim sings all pop and jazz styles, has sung professionally worldwide in diverse venues for thirty years, and toured internationally with three-time GRAMMY®-winner and jazz legend, Jon Hendricks. She graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and also has a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology. Kim loves to work with students of all levels, and takes into account the learning style and personality of the individual student. She helps students develop a relaxed, natural tone through healthy vocal technique, and works to build their ear training, music literacy, and “real-life” musical skills to strengthen their confidence as musicians.
