Pete is a regular columnist for Mandolin Magazine and has authored nine instructional books on mandolin and fiddle playing. Pete’s main emphasis is having fun! Students should enjoy the lesson and the music. Pete covers good mechanics and ergonomics, and ear development is a big priority. He’ll also help advancing players explore how greats of the past have played the music and learn the language of that style.

Carol Martin

Mandolin

Teaches at Dusty Strings: Wednesday, Thursday

Ages Taught: All Ages

Levels Taught: All Levels

Teacher Biography: Carol has logged many years of teaching and performing, giving workshops at bluegrass events like Wintergrass and festivals like the National Fiddlers’ Contest in Weiser, Idaho, the birthplace of her award-winning band, Noteworthy. Carol’s goal is to help each student find his or her own potential and strengths. She begins by introducing or correcting mechanics, then focuses on melodic and improvisational lead playing and perfection of tone, supplemented with ear and rhythm training. She can help you to play the style you like best, or find what technique suits you best, and will help you learn to adjust for the ‘feel’ of the music style, rather than depending on a single default method of playing.
