Beginning Bluegrass Mandolin
Carol Martin
Six Thursdays, November 4, 11, 18, December 2, 9, 16, 6:30-7:30 p.m., $120.
Learn how to play a standard bluegrass tune each week, as well as how to construct lead ’breaks’ to a standard bluegrass song, incorporating Monroe-style phrases. We’ll use tremolo and well-placed double stops to achieve the Bluegrass sound. Also learn how to make chop chord forms and changes, and how to strengthen that pesky pinky. Classes will include question/answer sessions on good practice habits, basic theory, stylistic chording and improvisation, and playing with other musicians. You should have a basic understanding of left- and right-hand mechanics and the ability to learn by ear and/or read tablature or notation. Bring a recorder!
