Beginning Harmonica
Mark Graham
Four Tuesdays, April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 6:30-7:30 p.m., $80.
Start out on the harmonica with this introductory class, exploring the techniques used to play soulful blues and country music. These techniques include single-note playing, tongue blocking, hand and throat vibrato, chording, chugging, note bending, playing in different positions (straight harp, cross harp, etc.) and more. There will be some simple yet useful music theory (knowing which harp to play for what song) and some tunes familiar and strange. Bring a key-of-A 10-hole diatonic harmonica (this is very important; key-of-C harmonicas will not do) and a recording device.
