Beginning Clawhammer Banjo 1

Four Wednesdays, March 3, 10, 17, 24, 7:45-8:45 p.m., $80.

Learn the old-time style of banjo pickin' that has endured in America for years. The clawhammer style is easy to understand, and with a little practice you can have a lot of fun. We’ll cover the basics of right and left hand technique, unlock the all-important "bum-ditty," and learn some tunes along the way.

 

 

Beginning Bluegrass Banjo 1

Four Wednesdays, March 3, 10, 17, 24, 6:30-7:30 p.m., $80.


This class will get anyone started with the fundamentals of bluegrass banjo playing. Start by learning the basic rolls that give bluegrass its signature sound, and use those rolls in two classic banjo tunes. The class will also address issues such as holding the banjo, muscle tension, and hand position.

Beginning Bluegrass Banjo 2

Four Wednesdays, April 7, 14, 21, 28, 6:30-7:30 p.m., $80.

 
In this intensive class, students will learn to teach themselves and make their practice time more effective. Learn how to create a banjo break to a song "from scratch," work with a metronome to improve timing, technique, and speed, and play in new keys. Students will need a capo and a fifth-string capo.
