In addition to all the wonderful new instruments we carry, Dusty Strings offers a varied selection of consignments, trade-ins, used, and vintage instruments. Stock varies greatly from week to week so give us a call and find out what’s currently available.

Buying instruments
Dusty Strings is very active in buying and selling fine, used, and vintage acoustic instruments. Due to the recent demand for such instruments, availability is unpredictable, but we do get the old Gibsons and Martins from time to time. If you have an acoustic instrument that you would like to sell, give us a call and let’s talk about the instrument’s value.

Appraisals
We provide written appraisals, whether for insurance purposes or historical interest, for $25. Appraisals include all the necessary details, including a thorough inspection of the instrument and an evaluation as to its replacement cost, and are printed on our letterhead, which means Dusty Strings will stand behind its evaluation. We’re always happy to offer undocumented evaluations for free, but in both cases (documented or undocumented), we must have the instrument in our hands to do an accurate evaluation. Over-the-phone evaluations are inherently inaccurate and can never take into account the subtleties that determine an instrument’s true value.

Trade-ins
There are always new instruments to fall in love with, and you might want to consider trading in your old instrument for a new one. We offer competitive values for your old instrument, but as with appraisals, we need to see the instrument to determine its trade-in value. Some instruments may not work with our inventory, so please check with us in advance to see if your instrument qualifies for a trade-in.

Consignments
Want a hassle-free solution to selling your instrument? We can add your instrument to our popular collection of guitars, mandolins, banjos, and fiddles already on consignment. Our knowledgeable sales staff will maintain and promote the sale of your instrument until the right customer takes it away. The details are simple: you get 75% of the total sale price, and Dusty Strings gets 25%; and the instrument must be in playable condition. If you change your mind after giving us something to sell on consignment, relax—you can pick it up at any time, with no obligation.
