The sparkling, multi-hued iridescence of abalone shell has been used by luthiers to decorate fine instruments for hundreds of years. Our craftspeope painstakingly inlay small strips of abalone between borders of delicate contrasting veneers called purfling. It is a tasteful and elegant touch that outlines the entire perimeter of the soundboard.
Please note that for the D10, D45 & PD40, soundboard binding and purfling must be ordered along with the abalone soundboard inlay option. The Chromatic Series dulcimers come standard with binding and purfling.
